Lord Rama, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, was born in Ayodhya as the eldest son of Kausalya and Dasharatha. He was the King of Ayodhya and was married to Sita, who is considered to be an avatar of Goddess Lakshmi. In Hinduism, Lord Rama is referred to as ‘Maryada Purushottam’, which means, the Lord of Virtue. Lord Rama is believed to be the central figure of the Ramayana – one of the two great epics of India.
